Chief Technology Officer

As the Chief Technology Officer of Law Firm Defender I provide expertise on advanced security technologies, threat intelligence, and risk management strategies to Law Firm Defender and it’s clients. My primary focus is on implementing robust, multi-layered security measures and delivering cost-effective, compliance-oriented solutions for small to medium-sized law firms. With a passion for project management, I bring extensive expertise on cutting-edge security solutions tailored to your firm’s specific needs.

On a personal note, I’m not a computer geek, nor do I dabble in computer technologies or gaming after hours for fun, though I certainly did in the distant past.  If anything I’m always conducting research in my field.  So I guess this might make me a little bit of a computer geek, but I’m making headway!  In reality I like to bring humor into people’s lives and I’ve been known to tell the worst Dad jokes in history, but never to the point where someone says “I don’t get it.”  I think this brings a little levity into a seriously, overworked world.

My background includes a nomination from Senator Bill Bradley for admission into the US Air Force Academy, an admission I deferred in favor of an Air Force ROTC scholarship.  I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from NC State.  My professional journey includes significant roles at the AT&T Advanced Software Construction Center and Lucent Technologies where I contributed to achieving ISO 9001 certification in software engineering, development and test processes. I held various technical and management positions for over a decade both in hardware and software.  I have over 30 years of professional experience in the IT and cybersecurity landscape and have the gray hair to prove it!

My wife Janet and I have been married for 35 years, have two adult children, Matthew and Kaitlyn.  Both are now grown and excelling in careers at Amazon and in Pharmacy.  Like their Mom and Dad, both love pets.  Janet and I own two cats, one ginger colored Maine Coon at 22 pounds, named Chester, and one little tabby at 7 pounds named Gracie.  If on a video call  I can’t guarantee you won’t see a tail come across the screen or hear the pleading sound of one of them reminding me it’s time to feed them.  Of course I lock the office door but you might see their paws in the background trying to open it.

Legal Technology Support Specialist

With a strong background in law firm administration, I began my career as an administrative professional and advanced to the role of office manager.   In addition to managing operations and leading the team, I served as the first point of contact for technical issues and provided support for their document management service, Net Documents.  This unique combination of administrative insight and hands-on tech experience led me to specialize in IT for the legal industry.  Today, I focus on using my unique insight and technical expertise to provide tailored solutions that support the needs of law firms.

I moved to NC with my husband, Bill and three children, Casey, Kelsey and Nick in 2003.  Inspired by my children to get back into the pool, most mornings I can be found practicing with my YOTA Masters teammates.  My husband and I are also avid concert goers.

I’m an IT support specialist with a deep passion for technology and a strong background in computer science. I hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC), where I graduated cum laude. This academic foundation, combined with hands-on experience, allows me to deliver effective and tailored IT support for law firms.

Before transitioning to the legal field, I gained valuable experience working at Pratt & Whitney, where I provided technical support for mission-critical systems. That role sharpened my problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage high-stakes environments—skills I now apply to support the specific needs of law firms.

One of my greatest strengths is my passion for staying up-to-date with the latest technological advancements. I am constantly learning about new tools, platforms, and trends that can improve system efficiency, security, and overall functionality. By embracing emerging technology, I’m able to bring innovative solutions to the table, ensuring your firm is always equipped with the best possible IT infrastructure to protect sensitive information and streamline operations.
